Happy New Year and Happy Black History Month!  I made the decision to take January off.  I had some personal things that I really needed to focus on.  But I’m back and happy to be back.  Taking a month gave me the chance to recharge my batteries and to be more present in my home life.  Anyways, I hope that your 2018 has gotten off to wonderful start.

Currently, I’m . . .

Exciting |  Black Panther is hitting theaters next week and I can’t wait!!  I did get invited to an advance screening of the movie.  However, I’m not sure if I’m going to attend.  I know it sounds crazy to pass up this opportunity but this movie is a HUGE deal for the Black community and especially for South Carolina since Chadwick Boseman was born and raised in Anderson, SC.  So, I really wanted the first time I saw this movie to be with my family and unfortunately, I can only bring 1 guest to the screening.

With that said, I don’t want to chance to have to wait for ages before being able to see the movie.  A lot of theaters in our area are already sold out for release day and a few days afterward thanks to advance ticket sales.  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  Let me know in the comments if you’re planning on seeing Black Panther.

Regretting |  So I’m a person who doesn’t like to have many regrets.  And I know the New Year just started but I’m really regretting that I forgot to take pictures on Christmas!!  Talk about a total Mom Fail.  I snapped all of one picture of the kids opening gifts and it’s not even a good one.  Jay did get take video but it’s not the same as taking pictures.

Honestly, Christmas 2017 was just off.  I let bad attitudes ruin my Christmas spirit and I hate that I did.  Usually, I’m the one taking tons of pictures, editing them and sending them out to everyone afterward.  My goal this year is to get back on track.  I really want to capture these memories for my children.  The silver lining is that the kids both got their most anticipated/wanted – the Thomas & Friends SuperStation for my son and the Barbie Dream House for my daughter.

Watching |  Last weekend we got to screen Peter Rabbit!  It’s such a great movie and I highly recommend it if you haven’t taken the family to see it already.  The kids and I loved it.  It’s funny but also has a very heartwarming message.  I have a full review coming in a few days.

I really think that Beatrix Potter would have been proud.  I love that Sony worked with her estate to create this movie and got lots of feedback and assistance from them.  This is a great addition to her legacy.

Shopping |  Y’all I’ve been on fire when it comes to shopping for the holidays and birthdays.  So far I’ve already purchased some gifts for my little guy’s upcoming birthday, purchased everyone’s Valentine’s Day gifts and have even gotten a start on my Christmas shopping.  Since everyone already opened their Valentine’s Day gifts (they’re impatient) I’ll show you what they got.

Jay got the webcam for gaming, the Ever After High Nina Thumbell Doll is for my daughter and the Diesel and Ferdinand trains are for my son.  If you’re looking for last-minute gift ideas my Amazon Influencer page is always a great place to shop.  Plus, you can still order from Amazon and get gifts in time for Valentine’s Day!

Reading |  I’ve really been enjoying most of the books I’ve been reading lately.  I recently stumbled across The Haunted Library series by Dori Hillestad Butler.  It’s a middle-grade series about a ghost boy, Kaz, and a human girl, Claire, who start their own ghost detective agency while trying to help Kaz find his family.  It’s really good and the kids and I have been reading the entire series together.

Also, because it’s Black History Month, I’m joining the #ReadSoulLit read along.  This year our group book is Tar Baby by Toni Morrison.  This is one of the Toni Morrison books I haven’t read so I’m glad it was picked.  I’m also finishing up Christina C. Jones’ The Truth: His Side, Her Side, and the Truth About Falling in Love.  It’s really good.  If you need more suggestions for Black reads check out the video below.

So let me know how your 2018 is going.  How was your Christmas?  Oh, and we did end up getting our snow finally!!  It wasn’t a lot but as the saying goes, some is better than none.

I was wondering about Peter Rabbit. It looks either really cute or really creepy (so I'm glad you loved it). 🙂
